Whoa, this baby's coming!

Today we had our 38 week check-up with our OB and we have some news to share!

Apparently I am 50% effaced and about 1.5 cm dilated! She said that Baby Z is still pretty high, so she doesn't expect anything to happen before the weekend, but that this baby is certainly on his/her way out! Jordan has a midterm on Thursday that he needs to get through, so I've decided to put myself on modified bedrest to put the brakes on Baby Z's descent. Our OB also said that we've been measuring about a week ahead of schedule consistently for the past few weeks, so she's scheduled us for another sonogram for next week to make sure that we're not having a gigantic baby. And, for those of you who enjoy TMI and who might have been curious, I have to tell you that when she checked my cervix today, her exam was completely non-painful! I so, so hope she's the one that actually ends up delivering our baby! She said that unless we were to go into labor at 2 or 3 in the morning, more than likely she will be the one to deliver our baby, so that's reassuring. It doesn't sound like she has any travel plans between now and Nov 4th either, which is good!

So, Jordan and I were evidently in complete denial about this baby actually arriving someday, and as a result, we put off attending any of those childbirthing classes. We specifically didn't sign up for one of the classes that met weekly because we knew inevitably we'd end up missing some if not half of the classes. We had kept the idea of taking one of the weekend crash courses in the back of our minds, but the last one available is this weekend and we're not going to be able to make that either- Jordan has to test a subject for work on Saturday, and our church is throwing us a baby shower on Sunday. So, I decided to go to the public library yesterday and check out a DVD about this topic, but it was already checked out... so I got a few books instead and am going to spend the day reading about what's to come... and, when I get bored of that, I've decided to take my aunt's advice and start working on a stocking for Baby Z for Christmas! I'm also thinking of sewing another cover for our Boppy pillow since I found some fuzzy gray fleece fabric in my craft closet. Plus, I rented a bunch of movies and a season of Project Runway at the library yesterday, so I have plenty to entertain me while I rest up on the couch. Ah, I love not having to study or go to clinic! Although I do feel a little guilty...

  1. Tell your hubs that I expect text messages when you go into labor. I wouldn't worry about the class. You probably know more than most women going into it, being a doctor and all. Plus, our class was mostly a soapbox for the instructor to tell us about why we didn't need the epidural and how our bodies were made for labor. Bleh. Better off with Project Runway!
