update

At our check-up today, we found out that the baby's heart rate is 127, which, according to the old wives' tale, would indicate we're having a boy... who knows! The baby kept kicking the fetal heart tone monitor. It was pretty funny. Apparently my belly is measuring at 34 weeks gestation, which is larger than my actual 31-ish weeks. For now my OB isn't worried about it- you can measure ahead of schedule for a lot of reasons, including the baby's positioning, how constipated you are or when you last ate; anything that displaces the uterus will affect the measurement. But, she did say that if we measure larger than expected at our next visit in 2 weeks that she'll do an ultrasound to make sure we're not having a gigantic baby or that we have polyhydramnios (too much amniotic fluid). Jordan and I had a mini panic attack at the thought that we might be off on the due date and that this baby could be coming 3 weeks sooner than anticipated. This is highly unlikely, but we still panicked, nonetheless. This baby can come on October 17th. NO EARLIER! Jordan says that if he/she does, it'll be our first example of our child being disobedient. ;) Otherwise, my blood pressure and kidney function are both still looking great, so no sign of preeclampsia here! I've gained 23.5 lbs so far, which is right on track. If I grow according to schedule (1 lb per week in the 3rd trimester), that'll put me at a total weight gain of 32.5 lbs, which is within the 25-35lb goal. I've been trying to stay pretty active lately; I ride my bike alongside Jordan while he runs, and I take the dogs on 20-40 minute walks twice per day. Plus, I'm pretty active at the hospital too. I did notice that all this time on my feet has given me a lovely souvenier- my first varicose vein! Eww! Luckily it's really tiny and it's located on the side of my foot, as opposed to crawling up my calf or something. ;) Well, gotta go study!
