gDiapers

Jordan and I have mentioned before that we are going to be using gDiapers once the baby is born, and since we've received so many questions as to what they actually are, I thought I'd post a blog entry about them.

The "g" in gDiapers stands for "green," as these diapers are eco-friendly. They consist of an outer cotton pant/diaper, which is washable, and a plastic-free biodegradable diaper refill. Since the liners are plastic-free, they can be flushed down the toilet, garden-composted or tossed in the trash. They break down in 50-150 days, as opposed to something like 500 years for a standard disposable diaper.

So, basically, how they work, is you put a new diaper refill liner into the pant, and put it on the baby, as you would any other sort of diaper. Then, when the baby goes, you take out the liner and flush it. Then, you put in a new liner and you're set! It's kind of like a gigantic maxi pad. Of course, if the baby has a big blowout, you flush the liner and toss the pant in the wash and get a new pant and liner. I know what you must be thinking- "You can't (or at least shouldn't) flush maxi pads down the toilet!"- but these are different. They break up like toilet paper once they hit the toilet water. Watch one of the videos below to see this!
We think these will be a wonderful happy medium between disposable diapers and cloth diapers. Most daycares won't deal with cloth diapers these days, so this is a nice way to be environmentally-friendly. Plus, the pants are the cutest things!

Here's a link to some videos if you're still interested, and here's a link to their website if you want to purchase any!
