Everytime we had an interval workout for cross-country, indoor or outdoor track in college, I used to use "creative math" to make the workout sound less difficult. If for nothing else, it usually made my teammates laugh and it would give us something to joke about as our legs and lungs were dying. An example: if we had 8 400s, I would say that the first one really didn't count because we would be trying to figure out how to pace, where to place and how to breathe; there'd be too much else to think about while we were running it to get caught up in any mental games. Then of course, the last one wouldn't count because we'd just be going full-force and giving it everything we had left. Plus, we made a habit of calling the last interval of every workout or the last mile of every run the "bonus," so it doubly didn't count. Then, the second-to-last one didn't count either because it was technically the last one before the bonus, so we'd be treating it like our last one (see above). With similar "logic," I often transformed an 8x400 workout into a 4 or 5x800 workout, which was half as difficult as we originally anticipated. ;)
Similarly, I am approaching this pregnancy with this "creative math" approach. We didn't even really know we were pregnant until after 4 weeks, so 10% of the pregnancy had already passed by the time we knew what we had started. Then, with the Belize trip, planning the 5K and trying to get through my last class at KU, weeks 6-14 just flew by. Now we're 37.5% of the way done with the pregnancy! I can't believe we only have 175 days left to go! That all assumes the baby comes exactly on time, of course.
Though I've been feeling much like my pre-pregnancy self lately since the morning sickness and fatigue have largely disappeared, I have been exeriencing a couple of new symptoms. 1) headaches. These suck. More than painful, they're particularly bothersome because they turn me into a super-irritable baby that can't seem to get motivated to do anything. However, usually a little nap or a cool washcloth on my forehead makes them pass. 2) painful skin. That might sound weird, but I can't really describe how the stretching of my skin on my abdomen is making me feel. Thankfully Jordan bought me some lotion with vitamin E, collagen, elastin and shea butter. It helps!
We found out that we are having our level 2 ultrasound on Monday, June 22nd. Only 40 days until we get to see Baby Zucchini on the big screen!
