I'd love to post pictures (if I had actually been able to take any) of the trip Marshall and I took to the zoo today, but we can't seem to find our digital camera after the move.
I had the day partially-off today (I only had clinic from 1-5pm), so Marshall and I took a trip to the Kansas City Zoo to celebrate the <100 degree weather. It was beautifully sunny and Marshall had a blast. I learned that he can say "Syndey Bear," which translates to polar bear, and that while dogs say "bark! bark!" polar bears say "roar." He also narrated a scene in which an elephant both defecated and urinated simultaneously as "pee poo peeeeee no no no!" There was a new baby orangutan that came right up to the mesh and put his hand out to touch Marshall but keeping all kinds of rare diseases in mind, I didn't let him shake hands with the monkey. There were two larger monkeys in the same area, and Marshall promptly informed me that they were "Mama," "Dada," and that the smaller one was "'Shall." That's how he says his name. It's adorable. He liked the turtles and the goats most of all. We shared a snack of animal crackers and he made each one demonstrate its respective animal noise before he devoured them. There were lots of dinosaurs, chickens and cows in that mix, apparently.
I'm so glad for months like this one during residency, when I have more than just one day off per week. Sure, my work hours might be unpredictable and inconvenient (9pm-7am, 4pm-2am and the like), but at least I have some time to see my son and help Jordan around the house. Tonight we were even able to have some friends over for dinner. It was great to feel like a normal person for a change.
And, Marshall and I get to spend the whole day together tomorrow too!
