1 month down

Ah, SIGH. I've officially made it through my first month as a resident. Perhaps that explains why I haven't updated the blog since Father's Day. In the chaos of the move, I can't find our digital camera to upload any pictures of the cute kiddo, but I'll give you an update on our happenings over the past month and a half.

1) We bought our first house! We closed on June 30th, yup, the day before residency officially started, which means that we took our sweet time actually moving out of the old rental and into the new house. The new tenants at the rental aren't moving in until August 13th, so we had some time to gradually pack, move and get the old place cleaned up. I packed a little here and there in the evenings after work and Jordan moved the boxes in our Focus a few at a time. Thankfully we have a couple of generous friends with trucks who helped us move the furniture and bigger items. At this point we're 99.9% moved over to the new house... just a few things are left in the shed at the old place. I'll post some pictures once our house isn't filled with unpacked boxes, but for now, here's a picture of the outside:
2) Marshall's language has EXPLODED. Here's a short list of some of his most frequently used words: apple, airplane, ball, book, boy, cup, cat, car, dada, dog, go, girl, hat, ham, mama, moon, no-no, uh-oh, poo, park, pool, school, sit, shark, Sydney, turtle and toy. He's even put some two word phrases together like "mama go" and "go poo". :) On the saddest of occasions he even put three words together and said "mama no go!"
3) Marshall has started running everywhere, including into the deeper end of the zero-entry pool. He loves the water and he and Jordan get to go to the pool at least 3-4 times per week.
4) Jordan has continued to do well in physical therapy school. We're so glad that he's enjoying it so much.
5) Oh, and I started that little thing called residency... no big deal. ;) It's been infinitely harder than I ever imagined to be away from Jordan and Marshall so much, but I'm really enjoying how much I'm learning and my new friends at work. I've been pretty tired, so exercising has pretty much fallen to the wayside, but I have gotten a few good runs in around our new neighborhood, and we've gone a few long walks with the dogs. Unfortunately, with me working 75+ hrs per week, much of the domestic responsibilities have fallen on Jordan, including making all of our meals and transporting Marshall to and from daycare. I've been trying to help out with laundry, the dishes and keeping the house clean when I can, but it's been tough and I know Jordan should win the husband-and-father-of-the-year award for sure. Next month should be better in terms of scheduling because I'm starting a rotation in the Emergency Department and for the most part my shifts are only 10 hrs and overnight. Plus, I get 9 consecutive days off in a row! We've already filled that time with thrilling activities including 1) Jordan getting his wisdom teeth pulled, 2) Me going to the eye doctor and 3) Me going to the dentist. Yay for new, excellent, health, vision and dental coverage! :) Jordan's mother and my sister are also planning visits during August, and we couldn't be more excited to have some family around!

So, 1 month down, only 59 more to go. Whoa.
