work it out, baby

Yesterday, after my 26-hour shift at the hospital, Jordan and I went to our 33 week check-up. We got to meet one of the other obstetricians, in case our doctor can't be there for the delivery. She was really young and super nice. During the exam, she palpated for the baby's positioning, and helped Jordan feel the head, back, and limbs. However, because of all the pushing on the belly, they ended up inducing a Braxton-Hicks contraction. Then, the OB listened for the baby's heart rate, and it was 120, which is a little low. So, she decided to play it safe and hook us up to the NST monitor so that she could monitor the baby's heart rate and my contractions more closely. The baby's heart rate ranged from 116 to 150, and I had two Braxton-Hicks contractions during the 20 minute session. The baby moved a lot and when he/she did, his/her heart rate peaked. I kept telling Jordan that the baby was just working out and that it just has a low resting heart rate, like his/her daddy. ;) Maybe he/she will be a runner afterall!

I also got my flu shot, and my arm is still sore! We go back in two weeks for another check-up, and then we start our weekly appointments until the baby comes. We have yet to attend any childbirthing classes (oops), but hopefully we'll take care of that soon. Our hospital offers a weekly course starting on Oct. 1st, and a two-day crash course on Oct 24/25. We are hesitant to pay for the latter, in case the baby comes before then!

And, after having to do some rescheduling, we get to have some of our maternity photos taken this Saturday! That means we'll (hopefully) have some great photos to share soon!
