35 weeks!

Only 5 more weeks to go!

We had another OB appointment today. We're currently on the "tour-de-OB/GYNs" at our clinic, which means that we have a different doctor each week so that we can say we've at least met the other physicians in case our OB isn't able to deliver our baby for some reason. Well, today, we had an appointment with the only male OB in the practice. And, here's a summary (albeit probably somewhat exaggerated) of our encounter with him today:

Dr: "Hey, I'm Dr. So-and-so. Any bleeding? Any contractions? Any questions?"
Me: "um, Hi, nice to meet you. No, no bleeding... yeah, I'm having some Braxton Hicks contractions..."
Dr: "Great. I'm going to check your fundal height, fetal heart tones and cervix now. I hope to spend like 13 more seconds on this encounter, so let's hurry up."
(He then proceeds to do my Group B strep test (a rectovaginal swab... aka, not pleasant) and then use his Hulk-sized entire fist to check my cervix)
Dr: "Okay, so you're 35 weeks now, so if you decide to have this baby early, that's fine. Oh, and you might notice some bleeding after your exam. See you in a week."

Okay, okay, so it didn't really go that badly, but seriously, it was one of the worst encounters with a physican I've ever had. He literally spent 7 minutes in the exam room with us. And, he was not gentle at all during his physical exam. Not to overshare, but I was sore for about an hour afterwards. As a medical student who has done many a pap smear and OB check, I know that's not normal. Thankfully I haven't noticed any bleeding yet, since I'm certain that would freak me out. And, fortunately, we don't have any more appointments with this particular physician. Hopefully he's not the one who ends up delivering our baby. I don't mean to assume he's a bad doctor or anything like that; obviously the other OBs wouldn't keep him in the practice if they didn't respect his work. But, I just didn't feel comfortable with him and would prefer to have someone more gentle and courteous bring our little babe into the world.

The baby's heart rate was 125 and we measured right on schedule!

Well, Jordan's starting to play in a volleyball league through our church and we're off to his first game tonight!

  1. I hate doctor's like that. There was one in the practice I went to when Taryn was born. I told my OB I wouldn't deliver if that doctor was on that night. I don't know if she believed me, but I meant it at the time!
