Ultrasound!

Foot!

Profile
Yesterday we got to have an ultrasound of Baby Zucchini #2.  He/she is growing well and has two arms, two legs, normal kidneys, a normal bladder and bowels and a beautiful brain (says the neurologist-to-be).  They did find what's called an intracardiac echogenic focus in the right ventricle (one of the chambers of the heart).  This just means a bright spot.  It can be seen at this point in pregnancy in normal pregnancies as a normal variant.  It can also be a soft marker for chromosomal abnormalities like Trisomy 21 (Down Syndrome) or Tristomy 13.  However, our baby doesn't have any of the other markers on ultrasound and our after meeting with the genetic counselor earlier in the second trimester after my sequential screen, our risk for a chromosomal abnormality is less than 1 in 10,000.  Either way this focus doesn't have any impact on the function of the heart and our baby has an otherwise completely normal heart, structurally.  We were already scheduled to have a fetal echocardiogram in a couple of weeks for screening since I had a congenital heart defect, so they'll be able to further categorize this focus- if it's even still there by then.  I've gained about 12-13 lbs so far and I'm feeling the baby move all the time.  My placenta is posterior and at this moment the baby was breech but there's a ton of time for he or she to move into the proper position.  The heart rate was 162 and the baby has healthy genitalia, so I'm told, I just don't know which kind.  :)
