Baby's still in there!

Today we had our 22 week check-up and the baby's heart rate was 126. For all of you who are convinced we are having a boy, today's measurement would be consistent with that prediction. However, I'd like to point out, as a 50% doctor, that gender can not be predicted by fetal heart tones. ;)

Also, it seems that some weight gain has definitely occurred. I've gained somewhere between 10 and 16 lbs so far. That might sound a little weird, but the first number just compares my pre-pregnancy weight to my current weight, and the second one compares today's measurement to my lowest weight during the pregnancy, which was during the first trimester (I had lost a little bit of weight due to morning/all-day-long sickness). Either way, I'm still right on target. Since my pre-pregnancy BMI was in the healthy range, my goal weight gain is between 25 and 30 lbs. I nearly outweigh Jordan now...

I also found out today that I am anemic (Hb 9.9 g/dL; normal is 12-16 for women). This wasn't incredibly surprising to me, since my mom is anemic and I've always had a history of slightly lower than normal iron (I was never able to donate blood until my first year of medical school, when I barely met the cut-off). I'm just going to try to eat more iron-rich foods, since my prenatal vitamin already has plenty of iron in it (as evident by the wonderful constipation I've been experiencing lately! Oops, was that an overshare?). Hopefully my energy level picks up too!

In other news, we recently had a 'crisis' at our house, in which a pipe burst and in the process of its repair, a great deal of mold was discovered. So, Jordan and I are searching for a new place to live and will be moving ASAP. What a mess. We're just glad our landlords are being so cooperative and are being agreeable to us breaking our lease early. Unfortunately, Jordan will have to do all the moving without my help, since I'm hardly ever home now and I'm pregnant, but thankfully we have a lot of friends who are willing to help him out. We've only been in this house for 2 months, but already we've had too many problems to be willing to try to stick it out. So, again starts the search for a new home. Thankfully I have today and tomorrow off from my hospital responsibilites to take care of some of this. I'll keep you posted!

So, while I'm slaving away in the hospital on Saturday (and maybe Sunday) this weekend, I hope you all have a great holiday! Okay, it's not really slaving... I totally love it!

  1. As a 50% doctor as well as just an intelligent person, I'm sure you know that the BMI is not in any way scientific or an indicator or health.
